RH note: This week we’re happy to feature posts by Andy and Shaira, who honeymooned on the beautiful Caribbean island of St. John in August.

Andy says: A particularly worthy destination – not to be missed under any circumstances in fact – is Trunk Bay, named by Condé Nast magazine and National Geographic as among the world’s most beautiful beaches. This crescent -shaped swath of white sand and transparent, azure water will bring out the inner Jacques Cousteau in even the most virulent land-lubber. One can literally see the tropical fish swimming amongst the coral from the beach and there is a one-a-kind underwater nature trail designed to be followed via snorkel.

The water here, as with most of the island, is calm and free of strong currents meaning that even novice snorkelers can focus on the incredible views (though life guards are stationed there as well). One can lose track of time in this underwater portion of the national park (a warning: I emerged after several hours in the water, having been so taken by the scenery that I failed to notice a very serious sunburn which formed on the small of my back after swimming face down for so long).

In the end, the only problem with St. John for us was that we didn’t get to see everything. In many ways, this trip just scratched the surface. There are many miles of trails, and many unspoiled beaches, most of which are only accessible with a combination of hiking and a rented car (we lacked the latter, and cabs are only practical for half the island). To sum it up, from what I know about a lot of the Caribbean, if you haven’t been to Saint John yet, you won’t be disappointed, but once you do go, you are likely to be spoiled.

RH note, again: Many, many thanks for Andy and Shaira for taking the time to share their planning and experiences on this beautiful to the Virgin Islands.

Yesterday I talked about how great the Hyatt Regency Aruba’s pool is for relaxing, but there’s also a ton more to do for honeymooners hoping to get up and go.

You can easily book excursions for diving, sailing and snorkeling trip with Red Sail Sports at their right off the main lobby of the Hyatt. Their boats pick up guest at the end of the pier which means not having to rent a car or spend time in a taxi getting to a marina.

The Hyatt has a bunch of on-site dining options. Palms Restaurant offers Latin-style cuisine, an open view of the kitchen and happy hour most days.

With probably the most impressive setting, the Ruinas del Mar restaurant is a limestone building with open-air seating. It’s surrounded by the hotel’s man-made lagoon which means you can dine on the Spanish-influenced meals and watch chubby Koi fish swim by. They serve breakfast, dinner and Sunday brunch.

And because everyone wants to be South Beach, the Hyatt has the outdoor Alfresco Bar, complete with beds draped in white and candles galore. Honeymooners will love the romantic vibe this place has at night.

Non-drinker or anyone looking for an afternoon pick-me-up can head to Kadushi Juice Bar, a short stroll from both the pool and the beachfront.

And after a day of sailing and snorkeling, eating and drinking, couples will want to relax in the hotel’s Still Water Spa. A 50 minute couples massage with run you $100 per person.

After Brooklynites Melody and Kevin Aberg tied the knot in Middletown, CT, they couldn’t wait to board their flight down to Belize for a romantic honeymoon. Melody, who works in marketing for a book publisher and Kevin, who does credit and risk management for a trading firm, wanted a trip that offered them a little adventure and a whole lotta relaxation. Melody says that Belize is a destination that, “felt like a few different honeymoons in one.”

Costa Rica, the South of France and Tahiti were all incredible destinations these two also considered. But in the end it was the wide range of activities combined with the great deal on flights that sealed the deal for Belize. Melody says, “It seemed like a place where we could really get a lot for our money and time – and that proved to be true. Flights were inexpensive (less than $300 each, round-trip from New York) and only took a few hours.”

The incredible waters of Belize are what draws visitors to this spot. Melody and Kevin were amazed by the nurse sharks and stingrays they saw while snorkeling. When asked what they’d do if they went back, this was at the top of their list. Melody says, “There are so many world-class snorkeling spots right off Ambergris Caye, and we only took one snorkel trip during our time there. If we went back, we’d check out some of the other snorkel spots – especially around Lighthouse Reef.

These two absolutely loved Victoria House, the resort where they stayed. Our faithful readers will remember another Melody +1 couple who coincidentally stayed at the very same resort. Mel and Kevin say it, “was a fantastic value for the experience.”

What’s not to love about a country with friendly locals, gorgeous beaches and fun in the jungle?! Melody list some of their trip highlights: hiking, lazy cocktails on the beach, zip-lining, reading on their balcony and cave-tubing. And the weather wasn’t bad either. She says, “It was perfect! Sunny and clear but not too hot; only rained one day we were there.”

Sounds like absolute perfection to me!

While in Belize, Carly and Tony were ready to celebrate their marriage with some serious adventure. They hadn’t arranged anything ahead of time, but that was fine. Everyday their resort, Tranquility Bay, would organize outings and activities based on the guests’ interests.

Carly and Tony went on a ziplining adventure through a local outfitter called Seaduced by Belize. The guides took them out to Jaguar Paw, where they traveled through the jungle canopy along eight different elevated platforms. The trip lasts all day and a light breakfast and lunch are included.

They thought the cave tubing portion of the trip – included with the ziplining – was skippable. But soaring through the jungle was worth every penny. They highly recommend it to other honeymooning couples.

Carly and Tony knew they had to take advantage of Belize’s incredible ocean as well. Tranquility Bay Resort is located within Bacalar Chico National Park. She says, “They don’t advertise it, but Tranquility Bay Resort is the ONLY resort where you can swim right out to the Barrier Reef. All the other resorts brought their guests out to our reef in boats. We thought our location was really cool!” They took advantage of the great location to snorkel a ton.

Carly adds that anyone heading to Belize “MUST scuba at Hol Chan Marine Reserve.” She’s most grateful to “Max, our dive master, who held my hand the whole time during my first scuba dive ever.”

Just because they were expecting, did not mean Kay and Eijiro were going to sit still on their Mexican babymoon!

Locate about 60 miles south of Cancun in the Riviera Maya, Aktun Chen offers an adventurous and up-close interaction with nature. A zipline flight through the jungle canopy was obviously out of the question for mommy-to-be, so instead they opted for a cave tour and a snorkel trip.

The guided tours take you through a 600 meter long dry cave. You’re provided with helmets and the caves are well-lit with easy-to-walk paths. The cave itself is more than 5 million years old, with stalactites and stalagmites on display.

Kay and Eijiro also took a snorkel tour though the park’s cenote – or underwater cave.

Again, the equipment was provided. Each snorkeler gets a floatation belt, mask and snorkel. You can glide through the warm, crystal clear water to check out the rock formations.

An Aktun Chen trip is quite affordable as well. This two-tour package will run you US$45 each for three hours of guided adventure. Kay wisely recommends seeing out the “locals” parking lot near the caves. Parking in the bigger “tourist” lot is a total rip-off. Great tip!

Chris and Kim’s adventure cruise finished with a snorkeling trip. They were blown away by the beauty they saw just below the ocean’s surface. The great part about going through the resort is that they not only know the best local spots to dive in, but they also provide all the equipment you’ll need.

Chris and Kim’s adventure cruise finished with a snorkeling trip. They were blown away by the beauty they saw just below the ocean’s surface. The great part about going through the resort is that they not only know the best local spots to dive in, but they also provide all the equipment you’ll need.

Sandals also offers a ton of other watersports, like scuba diving, kayaking, glass bottom boating and waterskiing. Kim tried her hand at kneeboarding (picture waterskis without the need to stand and balance) and had an absolute blast.

And of course, they ziplined through the rainforest. My favorite thing about this shot – beside how happy these two look – is Kim’s comment. “This is the only picture we have from the zipline because we are both afraid of heights and didn’t want to drop the camera!” Way to face your fear and have some fun, guys!

Mike and Erica know they’re not too into the jungle, hiking or camping, so they didn’t do much sightseeing. Instead they soaked up the Hawaii experience by relaxing, going to the pool at the Hyatt, eating great food and driving on the coast.

They did do a bit of snorkeling and had a blast.

And while visiting the shops at Whaler’s Village, Erica met up with two of her friends, Louis and Tiffany.

One very cool thing they discovered is that you can actually mail a coconut from Hawaii. Several companies offer this service, and Mike and Erica decided to decorate one to send back to Jersey.

I love that these two did exactly what they wanted on their trip. The hikes Brian and Leigh look were perfect for them, but Mike and Erica knew that wasn’t their style. Instead they gave themselves permission to lounge in the sun and enjoy their time together.
