Necessary Linkage: 03.18.10

RH Note: Necessary Linkage is a semi-weekly collection of current and helpful tidbits from around the internets, curated by the lovely Marissa Hussey, who’s honeymoon was one of our first features.

From Blurry to Brilliant
My friends call me the digital camera whisperer. Okay, no one has ever actually said that, but I have been covered with hugs and shouts of thanks when teaching people to 1) turn their flash off and 2) rest the camera on something solid, before taking a photo in a bar. This photography basics article from the Times goes over those points and then some. On top of that, it has an amazing gallery of shots taken around Mumbai and Dubai with a camera phone, currently on display at Heathrow Airport. Since photos are so important for being able to look back on your honeymoon — it’s so worth a little research on how to make the best of them, so you don’t get home and find your sweetie’s head chopped off in all of them, or that you actually didn’t get the Eiffel Tower in the background.

Let it Snow
I could spend all day looking through the New York Times travel slideshows. But then I would get fired, so I try to limit it to a few times a week. These shots of Tuscany in winter, with accompanying info, make me want to book a flight right now. I consider being snowed in at my own apartment to be incredibly romantic, so thinking about that happening instead in a boutique hotel in rural Italy is just about making my heart explode.

Let’s Get Organized, Organized
My husband hates that I make him get to the airport well before we need to, but I can’t help it: my mother raised a paranoid uber-planner. (Which also accounts for the huge binders I spend months creating and then toting along in our travels.) I always have everything I need to get through airport security bundled together, but this carry-all wallet on Etsy.com would be the ultimate solution. This would hold plane ticket, boarding pass, ID, passport, connecting train tickets, hotel confirmation documents, everything you need to get in and get settled. And all in a cute little package! Heaven! (Here are a few others from downstairsDesigns, DearSukie, and buttonpom that I heart, big-time.)

Excuse me, could you spare $27,500?
From someone who has been trapped outside of security overnight in an empty airport for missing a connecting flight, this Department of Transportation news (from MSNBC) that will place a fine on more-than-three-hour delays is pretty interesting. One question: will this end up increasing flight prices? (What doesn’t?)

Paris in Springtime.
Drool. ‘Nuff said.

Marissa’s first journey out of the country was on a school trip to England (since then her anglophilia has truly known no bounds). She throughly enjoys seeking out all things “delightfully Internet-y” to share with her friends.
